Analyzing DNA from Blood and Tissue of Lung Cancer Patients

Molecular and Genetic Analysis of Lung Cancer

What this trial studies

This study analyzes DNA from blood and tissue samples of patients diagnosed with lung cancer to understand genetic factors associated with the disease. It aims to assess the impact of genetic polymorphisms on lung cancer risk, including the influence of diet and demographic factors. The research involves collecting blood samples and tissue from patients undergoing surgery, as well as questionnaires about their medical and environmental history. The goal is to identify biomarkers that could improve understanding and treatment of lung cancer.

Who should consider this trial

Good fit: Ideal candidates are newly diagnosed patients with primary lung cancer at Massachusetts General Hospital or Boston Medical Center Cancer Center.

Not a fit: Patients with metastasis from another site to the lung or those with mesothelioma will not benefit from this study.

Why it matters

Potential benefit: If successful, this study could lead to better understanding of lung cancer genetics and improved strategies for prevention and treatment.

How similar studies have performed: Other studies have shown success in identifying genetic factors related to cancer, making this approach promising but not entirely novel.
