What this trial studies
This observational study focuses on identifying various structural and functional factors that affect chewing and swallowing performance in geriatric individuals. It aims to systematically analyze these factors using the International Classification of Functioning, Disability, and Health (ICF) framework. Additionally, the study seeks to develop a dysphagia risk prediction model specifically for older adults to help detect potential issues early on. By understanding these risk factors, the study hopes to improve outcomes for elderly patients experiencing chewing and swallowing disorders.
Who should consider this trial
Good fit: Ideal candidates for this study are individuals aged 65 and older who can walk independently and follow simple instructions.
Not a fit: Patients who have communication issues or cannot follow simple instructions may not benefit from this study.
Why it matters
Potential benefit: If successful, this study could lead to early detection and intervention for chewing and swallowing disorders in older adults, potentially reducing complications.
How similar studies have performed: While there may be studies addressing similar issues, this approach of creating a dysphagia risk prediction model in geriatrics is relatively novel.
