Analyzing cerebrospinal fluid biomarkers related to aging
Deputy Director of Department of Neurosurgery, the Second Affiliated Hospital of Zhejiang University School of Medicine;Professor;
This study is trying to see how certain proteins in the fluid around the brain change with age and if these changes can help spot early signs of neurodegenerative diseases.

What this trial studies
This observational study investigates the role of cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) biomarkers in aging and neurodegenerative diseases. It aims to analyze CSF samples from various age groups to identify significant age-related changes in biomarkers such as amyloid-beta and Tau proteins. The study also seeks to develop a predictive model for early diagnosis of neurodegenerative diseases by quantifying CSF proteins and examining their dynamic changes across different disease stages. Additionally, a comprehensive database of CSF biomarkers will be created to support future research.
Who should consider this trial
Good fit: Ideal candidates include patients aged 0 to 90 years undergoing surgery under spinal anesthesia for non-neurological conditions.
Not a fit: Patients with existing neurological conditions such as Alzheimer's disease or Parkinson's disease may not benefit from this study.
Why it matters
Potential benefit: If successful, this study could enable early diagnosis and intervention for neurodegenerative diseases, improving patient outcomes.
How similar studies have performed: Other studies have shown promise in using CSF biomarkers for diagnosing neurodegenerative diseases, indicating a potential for success in this approach.
