What this trial studies
This study evaluates the effectiveness of Mi Bridge, an anonymous online program based on Motivational Interviewing principles, aimed at motivating high-risk individuals to seek treatment for their sexual interests involving children. The program will be available in seven languages and tested across six countries, focusing on reducing the risk of child sexual abuse and improving the health of participants. The primary goal is to increase the likelihood of these individuals admitting to treatment at healthcare facilities. Secondary goals include enhancing motivation for change, reducing sexual interest in minors, and addressing symptoms of depression.
Who should consider this trial
Good fit: Ideal candidates are individuals with concerns about their sexual interest in children, who have used child sexual abuse material in the past six months and are identified as high risk for committing child sexual abuse.
Not a fit: Patients with severe psychiatric illnesses or those lacking serious intentions to participate may not benefit from this study.
Why it matters
Potential benefit: If successful, this program could significantly reduce the risk of child sexual abuse by encouraging high-risk individuals to seek necessary treatment.
How similar studies have performed: While the approach of using online motivational interviewing is innovative, similar interventions targeting high-risk behaviors have shown promise in other contexts.
