AI-guided cardiac MRI for automatic heart image positioning

Artificial Intelligence Delivered Cardiac Magnetic Resonance - Prospective Validation

What this trial studies

Investigators developed AI algorithms using a retrospective database of pseudonymised cardiac MRI scans and have validated them retrospectively. This study will recruit adults referred for routine clinical CMR at Imperial College Healthcare NHS Trust and apply the AI to automatically position standard heart views during scanning. Scans performed with AI-assisted positioning will be compared to routine practice on measures such as successful view acquisition, image quality, and total scan time. The goal is prospective clinical validation of the algorithms in real-world scanning workflow.

Who should consider this trial

Good fit: Adults aged 18 and over who are referred for clinical cardiac MRI at the Imperial College Healthcare NHS Trust and can give informed consent.

Not a fit: Children under 18, pregnant patients, and people who require highly specialized or nonstandard cardiac imaging protocols may not benefit from this AI approach.

Why it matters

Potential benefit: If successful, this could shorten scan times, reduce waiting lists, and make cardiac MRI more widely available with more consistent image quality.

How similar studies have performed: Retrospective and pilot studies have shown promising results for AI-assisted imaging positioning, but prospective clinical validation of automated CMR positioning remains limited and this study is among the first to test it in routine practice.
