What this trial studies
This observational project will collect standardized ISAK anthropometric measurements and digital images at multiple distances from adults recruited mainly from university students and staff in Medellín, Bogotá, and Pereira. Machine learning and data-mining methods will be applied to generate digital anthropometry estimates that are compared with traditional measurements. The sample is convenience-based, includes both sexes and varied activity levels, and is recruited via internal and open calls. The project also aims to increase scientific literacy among practitioners to support safer use of self-monitoring tools under professional guidance.
Who should consider this trial
Good fit: Ideal participants are adults aged 18–59 who live in the participating cities, can provide informed consent, and can attend one on-site measurement session at a collaborating university.
Not a fit: People with body mass ≥160 kg, amputations, pregnancy, or implanted prostheses or implants are excluded and unlikely to benefit from these digital methods.
Why it matters
Potential benefit: If successful, this could make accurate, low-cost body-composition estimates widely available through mobile apps and support safer self-monitoring under professional guidance.
How similar studies have performed: Prior research has produced promising but variable results for AI-based digital anthropometry, so external validation and standardization are still needed.
