AI-assisted EGGIM scoring for gastric intestinal metaplasia

Artificial Intelligence in Assessing Gastric Intestinal Metaplasia Via the EGGIM Score

Qilu Hospital of Shandong University · NCT07257796

What this trial studies

This is a prospective, multicenter validation of an artificial intelligence system that automatically reads endoscopic images and generates EGGIM scores for gastric intestinal metaplasia. Adults aged 40–75 undergoing image-enhanced endoscopy at three hospitals in Jinan will be enrolled after informed consent. The AI-generated scores will be compared with endoscopists' readings and, where available, histology to measure accuracy, consistency, and reliability. The protocol expands on preliminary pilot data from a prior investigation (NCT05464108).

Who should consider this trial

Good fit: Adults 40–75 years old who are undergoing image-enhanced endoscopy (IEE) and can give informed consent, without prior gastric surgery and without severe organ dysfunction, are the ideal candidates.

Not a fit: People outside the 40–75 age range, unable to undergo gastroscopy or IEE, with prior stomach surgery, or with severe cardiac, cerebral, pulmonary, renal, or psychiatric disorders are unlikely to benefit.

Why it matters

Potential benefit: If successful, the AI could make EGGIM scoring faster and more consistent, helping clinicians detect precancerous gastric changes earlier.

How similar studies have performed: Previous pilot work (NCT05464108) and other AI applications in endoscopy have shown promise, but this larger multicenter validation is needed to confirm performance.
