AI analysis of tumor characteristics in papillary thyroid carcinoma

AI-Based Multimodal Multi-tasks Analysis Reveals Tumor Molecular Heterogeneity, Predicts Preoperative Lymph Node Metastasis and Prognosis in Papillary Thyroid Carcinoma: A Retrospective Study

Observational Sun Yat-Sen Memorial Hospital of Sun Yat-Sen University · NCT06241092

This study is testing a new way to use advanced technology to see if it can help predict how well people with papillary thyroid cancer will do and if their cancer will spread to lymph nodes.

What this trial studies

This study analyzes data from 256 patients with papillary thyroid carcinoma (PTC) at Sun Yat-sen Memorial Hospital and 499 patients from The Cancer Genome Atlas. It employs DNA-based next-generation sequencing and single-cell RNA sequencing to identify genetic alterations and tumor microenvironment heterogeneity. A deep learning multimodal model is developed to predict lymph node metastasis and disease-free survival by integrating histopathology images, genomic, transcriptomic, and immune cell data.

Who should consider this trial

Good fit: Ideal candidates for this study are adults aged 18 and older diagnosed with papillary thyroid carcinoma at least one month prior to enrollment.

Not a fit: Patients requiring valve surgery or those unable to perform physical activities without discomfort may not benefit from this study.

Why it matters

Potential benefit: If successful, this study could enhance the accuracy of predicting lymph node metastasis and prognosis in patients with papillary thyroid carcinoma.

How similar studies have performed: While the use of AI in cancer prognosis is gaining traction, this specific multimodal approach to analyze papillary thyroid carcinoma is relatively novel and has not been extensively tested.
