Advanced imaging techniques for diagnosing joint diseases
Novel Complex Radiodiagnostics of Peripherial Arthropathies
Semmelweis University · NCT05657847
This study is testing a new type of imaging called photon-counting CT to see if it can better diagnose joint diseases like rheumatoid arthritis compared to traditional methods like MRI and X-rays.

What this trial studies
This observational study aims to evaluate the effectiveness of photon-counting detector computed tomography (PCD-CT) in diagnosing chronic peripheral arthritides, including rheumatoid arthritis, psoriatic arthritis, and crystal arthropathies. The study will compare PCD-CT's capabilities against conventional imaging methods like MRI and radiography, focusing on its ability to detect bone erosions, synovitis, and other joint-related abnormalities. Participants will undergo imaging procedures to assess the advantages of PCD-CT, such as improved resolution and lower radiation exposure.
Who should consider this trial
Good fit: Ideal candidates include individuals diagnosed with rheumatoid arthritis, psoriatic arthritis, or crystal arthropathies who can provide informed consent.
Not a fit: Patients under 18 or over 100 years old, as well as pregnant or breastfeeding individuals, may not benefit from this study.
Why it matters
Potential benefit: If successful, this study could lead to more accurate and earlier diagnoses of various forms of arthritis, improving patient outcomes.
How similar studies have performed: While the use of advanced imaging techniques is growing, the specific application of photon-counting detector CT for these conditions is relatively novel and has not been extensively tested in prior studies.
