Advanced brain imaging using EEG and MEG technology

Development of Electroencephalography (EEG) and Magnetoencephalography (MEG) Source Reconstruction With Fast Multipole Method

NA · Worcester Polytechnic Institute · NCT06471244

This study is testing a new brain imaging technology that uses a special cap and software to see if it can accurately track brain activity while people do tasks like tapping their fingers or speaking.

What this trial studies

This clinical trial aims to evaluate the effectiveness of a new 256 dry electrode EEG cap combined with MEG readings and advanced brain modeling software for real-time source localization of brain activity. Participants will undergo MRI scans to create detailed brain models and will perform tasks such as finger tapping, median nerve stimulation, and speech processing while their brain activity is recorded. The study will compare the predicted locations of brain activity with actual MEG data and known anatomical locations to assess the accuracy of the new technology.

Who should consider this trial

Good fit: Ideal candidates for this study are healthy adults aged 18 to 65 with normal hearing and vision who can provide informed consent.

Not a fit: Patients with neurological or psychiatric conditions, implanted medical devices, or significant claustrophobia may not benefit from this study.

Why it matters

Potential benefit: If successful, this study could enhance the precision of brain activity localization, improving diagnostic and therapeutic approaches for neurological conditions.

How similar studies have performed: While the approach is innovative, similar studies have shown promise in improving brain imaging techniques, suggesting potential for success.
