What this trial studies

This single-center feasibility project offers adapted onco-esthetic sessions to adults with cancers of the oropharynx, oral cavity, hypopharynx, larynx, nasal cavity, salivary glands, cavum, or sinus who are starting curative-intent oncologic treatment. Trained socio-aesthetic practitioners provide individualized aesthetic care designed to address treatment-related physical changes and support restoration of self-image. The study will track feasibility measures such as uptake, adherence, and practical barriers, and will collect descriptive information on psychosocial outcomes. Participants must be French-speaking, insured under a social security scheme, and able to attend sessions at the Centre François Baclesse in Caen.

Who should consider this trial

Good fit: Adults (18+) with cancers of the upper aerodigestive tract who are about to start curative-intent treatment, fluent in French, and able to attend sessions at the center are ideal candidates.

Not a fit: Patients who are pregnant or breastfeeding, have medical or psychological conditions preventing participation, lack ability to attend follow-up, or who do not experience body-image concerns may not gain benefit.

Why it matters

Potential benefit: If successful, the program could improve patients' self-image, reduce psychosocial distress, and help people better cope with appearance changes from treatment.

How similar studies have performed: Socio-aesthetic programs in supportive oncology have reported positive patient feedback, but rigorous trials specifically focused on upper aerodigestive tract cancer patients are limited.
