What this trial studies

This Phase 4 interventional comparison enrolls adults with recurrent plantar warts at Khyber Teaching Hospital to receive either topical adapalene 0.1% gel or periodic cryotherapy with liquid nitrogen. Participants will be treated and followed at scheduled visits to document wart clearance, recurrence, and any side effects. Eligible adults are 18–60 years old, not pregnant or lactating, not on recent topical or systemic wart therapies or immunosuppressants, and without local secondary infection or more than five lesions. The study compares clinical efficacy and tolerability of the topical retinoid versus cryotherapy to help guide routine care for recurrent plantar warts.

Who should consider this trial

Good fit: Adults aged 18–60 with recurrent plantar warts who are not pregnant or breastfeeding, not taking immunosuppressants, not recently treated topically or systemically for warts, without local secondary infection, and with five or fewer lesions are ideal candidates.

Not a fit: Patients who are pregnant or breastfeeding, on immunosuppressants, recently treated for warts, have local secondary infection, or have more than five lesions are unlikely to be eligible or to benefit from this comparison.

Why it matters

Potential benefit: If successful, the topical adapalene could provide an effective, potentially less painful and more convenient alternative to cryotherapy for recurrent plantar warts.

How similar studies have performed: Cryotherapy is an established standard treatment with known efficacy, while topical retinoids such as adapalene have shown mixed but sometimes promising results in smaller studies.
