Ablation procedure for typical right atrial flutter

Ablation of Typical Right Atrial Flutter Through the Arm: Evaluation of Safety, Feasibility, and Efficacy

NA · Hartford Hospital · NCT05755074

What this trial studies

This clinical trial focuses on the ablation of typical right atrial flutter, a common procedure aimed at maintaining sinus rhythm in patients. The approach involves creating a line of block across the cavotricuspid isthmus in the right atrium, typically using 2-3 catheters inserted through the femoral vein. Recent advancements in catheter technology and ultrasound guidance have improved the efficiency and safety of the procedure. The trial will also explore the feasibility of performing the ablation through the left arm, which has not been previously reported.

Who should consider this trial

Good fit: Ideal candidates for this study are outpatient individuals referred for typical right atrial flutter ablation, weighing 50 kg or more.

Not a fit: Patients who weigh less than 50 kg, are unable to provide consent, have a pacemaker or defibrillator with transvenous leads, or are currently hospitalized may not benefit from this study.

Why it matters

Potential benefit: If successful, this procedure could significantly improve the management of atrial flutter, leading to better patient outcomes and quality of life.

How similar studies have performed: While traditional ablation techniques have been well-studied and shown success, the specific approach of using the left arm for ablation is novel and has not been previously reported.
