What this trial studies

The Cancer Tracking System (CATSystem) is a web-based tool designed to enhance cervical cancer screening and treatment adherence in Kenya, where screening rates are critically low. This project aims to evaluate the efficacy, implementation, and cost-effectiveness of the CATSystem through a matched, cluster randomized controlled trial across 10 government hospitals. The study will assess how well the CATSystem improves screening, treatment, referral, and follow-up care for cervical cancer patients. By involving both healthcare providers and patients in its development, the CATSystem seeks to address systemic barriers to effective cervical cancer management.

Who should consider this trial

Good fit: Ideal candidates for this study are women over 16 years of age who have access to a cell phone and are presenting for cervical cancer screening at participating hospitals.

Not a fit: Patients who are greater than 20 weeks pregnant, incarcerated, or unable to provide informed consent due to impaired capacity may not benefit from this study.

Why it matters

Potential benefit: If successful, this system could significantly increase cervical cancer screening rates and improve treatment outcomes for women in Kenya.

How similar studies have performed: Other studies have shown success with similar interventions aimed at improving cancer screening rates, indicating potential for the CATSystem's effectiveness.
