What this trial studies

This pilot interventional program delivers cognitive-behavioral content through storybooks and language activities shared between parents and their kindergarten-aged children. Participants are Singaporean citizens or permanent residents enrolled in K1 or K2 whose parent has read to them at least once in the past six months; children receiving medication or support from speech-language therapists or psychologists are excluded. The study will collect parent- and child-reported measures of coping, anxiety, and socio-emotional wellbeing to examine the reliability of those measures, the feasibility and acceptability of the program and protocol, and to provide a preliminary signal of efficacy. Sessions and assessments are conducted at the National Institute of Education, Nanyang Technological University.

Who should consider this trial

Good fit: Ideal candidates are Singaporean citizens or permanent residents enrolled in K1 or K2 whose parent has read with them at least once in the last six months and who are not currently receiving mental-health medication or professional speech/psychology support.

Not a fit: Children already receiving mental health medication or active support from a speech-language therapist or psychologist, or those not in K1/K2, are unlikely to benefit from this preventive program.

Why it matters

Potential benefit: If successful, this could offer an easy-to-deliver, parent-supported prevention program using storybooks to strengthen young children's coping skills and reduce early anxiety.

How similar studies have performed: Previous parent-led, book-based and early childhood cognitive-behavioral prevention programs have shown promising but preliminary results, so this approach is supported by early evidence but remains early-stage.
