What this trial studies

This intervention, called My Future Self, aims to reduce teen pregnancy among youth aged 16-19 in Los Angeles and San Diego Counties who are receiving education in non-traditional settings. The program consists of five group sessions over five weeks, targeting youth facing challenges such as unstable housing, poverty, and involvement with child welfare. Participants will be randomized to receive either the intervention alongside their regular services or just their regular services. The effectiveness of the program will be evaluated through surveys conducted at baseline, 6 months, and 12 months post-intervention.

Who should consider this trial

Good fit: Ideal candidates are youth aged 16-19 who are involved with partner youth-serving agencies or schools and are not currently pregnant.

Not a fit: Patients who are outside the age range, currently pregnant, or not planning to remain in the area for the intervention will not benefit from this study.

Why it matters

Potential benefit: If successful, this program could significantly reduce the rates of teen pregnancy among vulnerable youth populations.

How similar studies have performed: While there are existing interventions targeting similar populations, this specific approach tailored to non-traditional educational settings is novel.
