What this trial studies
This research aims to create a culturally tailored 'Faith in Action!' curriculum designed to train lay health navigators to assist Korean American women in accessing breast cancer screening within faith-based environments. The study will employ a parallel cluster randomized trial involving 16 churches in Los Angeles, where half will implement the intervention while the other half will serve as a control group. Trained navigators will provide education and resources to encourage participation in breast cancer screening through various engagement methods. The effectiveness of this intervention will be evaluated by measuring adherence to screening guidelines among participants.
Who should consider this trial
Good fit: Ideal candidates for this study are Korean women aged 45 and older who have not been diagnosed with breast cancer and have not received a mammogram in the past two years.
Not a fit: Patients who are currently diagnosed with breast cancer or who have received a mammogram in the last two years may not benefit from this study.
Why it matters
Potential benefit: If successful, this program could significantly increase breast cancer screening rates among Korean American women, leading to earlier detection and better health outcomes.
How similar studies have performed: Other studies have shown success with community-based interventions to improve cancer screening rates, suggesting that this approach may be effective.
