What this trial studies

This project evaluates an 8-week remote intervention designed for couples where one partner is a stroke survivor. The program focuses on enhancing emotional resilience through positive psychology techniques, goal-setting, and communication strategies. By involving both the stroke survivor and their carepartner, the study aims to reduce symptoms of depression and anxiety that often affect both individuals. The efficacy of this intervention will be assessed through a randomized waitlist-control design involving 200 dyads, with outcomes measured for emotional distress and relationship quality.

Who should consider this trial

Good fit: Ideal candidates are cohabitating couples where one partner has experienced an ischemic or hemorrhagic stroke within the last 3 years and both partners report anxiety or depressive symptoms.

Not a fit: Patients with significant aphasia, cognitive impairment, or other severe psychiatric conditions may not benefit from this intervention.

Why it matters

Potential benefit: If successful, this intervention could significantly improve the emotional well-being and rehabilitation outcomes for stroke survivors and their carepartners.

How similar studies have performed: Preliminary pilot studies have shown promising results, indicating that similar interventions can effectively reduce depressive symptoms and enhance resilience in stroke survivor-carepartner dyads.
