What this trial studies
This intervention focuses on self-management of hypertension among Native Hawaiian and Pacific Islander (NHPI) adults through a program called ENACTS. The program includes peer-facilitated education on healthy diets, medication adherence, and lifestyle changes, delivered over six months. Participants will be randomized into either the ENACTS intervention or usual care, with outcomes measured at various intervals using a mobile app for tracking. The study aims to evaluate changes in blood pressure, food purchasing behaviors, and family support for hypertension management.
Who should consider this trial
Good fit: Ideal candidates are NHPI adults aged 18 and older with a self-reported diagnosis of hypertension and elevated blood pressure.
Not a fit: Patients who are pregnant, undergoing dialysis, or receiving treatment for a terminal illness may not benefit from this study.
Why it matters
Potential benefit: If successful, this program could significantly improve blood pressure control and overall health outcomes for NHPI communities.
How similar studies have performed: Other studies have shown success with community-based interventions for hypertension management, suggesting that this approach may be effective.
