What this trial studies

This intervention aims to reduce the consumption of sugar-sweetened beverages (SSBs) among Latino children aged 1 to 5 while promoting reading aloud to enhance early literacy skills. The program will utilize mobile health technology to engage parents through text messages, providing them with resources and support to encourage healthier beverage choices and reading practices. By addressing both dietary habits and literacy, the study seeks to improve overall child development and combat childhood obesity in a vulnerable population.

Who should consider this trial

Good fit: Ideal candidates for this study are Latino children aged 1 to 5 whose parents can receive text messages and speak either English or Spanish.

Not a fit: Patients who may not benefit from this study include children who do not feed by mouth.

Why it matters

Potential benefit: If successful, this intervention could lead to healthier beverage consumption and improved literacy skills in Latino children, ultimately reducing the risk of obesity and related health issues.

How similar studies have performed: Other studies have shown success in using mobile health interventions to promote healthier behaviors, making this approach promising yet still innovative in this specific demographic.
