What this trial studies
This multicenter, open-label, randomized controlled trial aims to evaluate the effectiveness of a gender-transformative intervention (GTI) designed to reduce intimate partner violence (IPV) against women experiencing female-factor infertility. Couples undergoing their first or second IVF or ICSI cycle will be randomly assigned to either the intervention or control group. The intervention consists of five 60-minute sessions that address gender norms, promote gender equality, and teach healthy relationship skills, delivered by trained nurses and social workers during critical phases of the fertility treatment cycle. The study is conducted at two reproductive medicine centers in Beijing, China.
Who should consider this trial
Good fit: Ideal candidates for this study are couples undergoing their first or second IVF or ICSI cycle who have been diagnosed with female-factor infertility.
Not a fit: Patients who may not benefit from this study include those receiving donated reproductive materials, diagnosed with severe male-factor infertility, or those with severe mental disorders.
Why it matters
Potential benefit: If successful, this intervention could significantly reduce the incidence of intimate partner violence among infertile women, improving their overall well-being and mental health.
How similar studies have performed: While the intersection of gender-transformative interventions and infertility-related IPV is relatively novel, similar approaches in other contexts have shown promise in addressing gender inequality and improving relationship dynamics.
