A gamified web app to help recovery and function after total knee replacement
The Effect of the Web-Based Gamified Application Developed for Post-Total Knee Replacement Surgery Care on Functional Results and Recovery Conditions
This project will test whether a gamified web app called Game-App-KNEE, used daily for three months after discharge, helps people recover faster and regain function after total knee replacement surgery.

What this trial studies
The project first develops a mobile-compatible, web-based gamified application by creating educational content, obtaining expert and patient feedback (including Lawshe technique and readability testing), and performing technical and usability checks. In the second phase, a randomized controlled trial will compare patients who use the Game-App-KNEE daily for three months with patients who receive only the standard educational booklet. Eligible participants are Turkish-speaking adults aged 18–65 undergoing primary unilateral total knee arthroplasty who have a compatible smartphone and internet access. Excluded are patients with sensory or mental impairments, bilateral/emergency/revision surgeries, or those who receive general anesthesia.
Who should consider this trial
Good fit: Ideal candidates are adults 18–65 having primary unilateral total knee arthroplasty for osteoarthritis who can read Turkish and use a smartphone with internet access.
Not a fit: Patients with vision or hearing impairment, mental illness, bilateral/emergency/revision surgery, those who received general anesthesia, or those without a smartphone or internet are unlikely to benefit from this intervention.
Why it matters
Potential benefit: If successful, the app could improve adherence to home rehab and lead to faster and better functional recovery after knee replacement.
How similar studies have performed: Previous tele-rehabilitation and app-based programs after total knee arthroplasty have shown improved adherence and some functional gains, but fully gamified web-based approaches remain relatively new with limited large randomized trial data.
