What this trial studies
This pilot develops and tests a brief prevention program based on Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) aimed at improving well-being and value-guided living among students and young people. It enrolls Chinese-fluent participants aged 35 or younger and delivers ACT sessions focused on stress management, mindfulness, and values-based action. People with active psychosis, bipolar disorder, personality disorder, ongoing serious suicidal ideation or recent attempts, and intellectual disability are excluded for safety. Recruitment and delivery occur through the New Life Psychiatric Rehabilitation Association in Hong Kong as a small pilot to refine materials and procedures for larger prevention trials.
Who should consider this trial
Good fit: Ideal candidates are Chinese-speaking students or young adults aged 35 or younger who want to improve stress management and do not have active severe psychiatric conditions.
Not a fit: Those with current psychosis, bipolar disorder, personality disorder, ongoing or recent suicidal ideation/attempts, intellectual disability, or who are older than 35 are unlikely to benefit from this prevention program.
Why it matters
Potential benefit: If successful, the program could give young people practical ACT skills to reduce stress, increase psychological flexibility, and improve everyday well-being.
How similar studies have performed: Prior brief ACT interventions for adolescents and young adults have shown promising reductions in distress and improvements in well-being, though larger prevention-focused trials remain limited.
