30-second lie-to-sit functional test for adults listed for liver transplantation

Assessment of Functional Capacity in Liver Transplant Recipients Using the 30-Second Lie-to-Sit Test

Observational Inonu University · NCT07365098

This project tests whether the 30-second lie-to-sit test can measure functional ability and relate to muscle strength and exercise capacity in adults listed for liver transplantation who speak Turkish.

What this trial studies

This observational study records demographic and clinical data and performs several physical function tests, including the 30-second lie-to-sit, 30-second sit-to-stand, and a 2-minute walk, alongside upper and lower extremity functional scales. Muscle strength is measured isometrically with a dynamometer for quadriceps, deltoid, trunk flexors/extensors, and handgrip, and perceived exertion is captured with the Modified Borg Scale. The collected measures will be compared to examine relationships between the lie-to-sit test and other functional and strength metrics. Findings will be used to inform individualized rehabilitation planning for patients awaiting liver transplantation.

Who should consider this trial

Good fit: Adults aged 18–65 who are listed for liver transplantation, can speak, understand, and write Turkish, have no mental disorders, and consent to participate are ideal candidates.

Not a fit: People with pulmonary, cardiac, neurological, or musculoskeletal conditions that prevent safe testing, those with cognitive impairment, or those unable to follow the assessment protocol are unlikely to benefit from this testing approach.

Why it matters

Potential benefit: If successful, the test could provide a quick, practical way to identify functional limitations and guide personalized rehabilitation planning for people awaiting liver transplant.

How similar studies have performed: Related simple functional tests like the 30-second sit-to-stand and the 2-minute walk have been used successfully in liver disease and other chronic conditions, so applying the lie-to-sit test here builds on existing methods rather than being entirely novel.
