What this research studies

This project partners with VA HIV specialty clinics to design a practical blueprint for delivering Whole Health in specialty settings. The team will gather input from Veterans and clinic staff, map clinic workflows, and pilot changes to improve coordination between HIV specialty care, primary care, and supportive services. The work addresses challenges many Veterans face, such as aging, multiple chronic conditions, stigma, and social needs. Findings will be used to create guidance that other VA sites can adopt to improve care for Veterans with HIV.

Who could benefit from this research

Good fit: Veterans living with HIV who receive care in VA HIV specialty clinics, particularly those who are older or have multiple medical or social needs, are the ideal candidates for this work.

Not a fit: Veterans who do not receive care through VA HIV clinics or who get all their care outside the VA are unlikely to benefit directly from this project.

Why it matters

Potential benefit: If successful, Veterans with HIV could get more coordinated, person-centered care that better addresses medical conditions, aging-related needs, and social challenges.

How similar studies have performed: VA Whole Health programs in primary care have shown promise for improving Veterans' care experience, but applying Whole Health specifically within HIV specialty clinics is a newer effort.
