What this research studies

Many adults with diabetes also have other health conditions, and managing them can be challenging, particularly for people of color. Group visits offer a way to get comprehensive care, including education on managing your diabetes and a chance to connect with others. This project is taking these helpful group visits online, making them virtual so more people can access them from home. We want to understand how well these virtual group visits work and how to make them available to more people.

Who could benefit from this research

Good fit: Ideal candidates are adults aged 21 and older with adult-onset diabetes mellitus, especially those from Hispanic and African American communities, who may also have other chronic conditions.

Not a fit: Patients who do not have diabetes or are not interested in a group-based, virtual care model may not directly benefit from this specific program.

Why it matters

Potential benefit: If successful, this approach could make it easier for adults with diabetes to receive comprehensive care, improve their health, and gain support from peers through convenient online meetings.

How similar studies have performed: In-person diabetes group visits have shown success in improving glycemic control and reducing healthcare use, and this project builds on a pilot of virtual group visits.
