What this research studies

We are working to improve how medicines are used for children and pregnant women, as there's a big need for better information in these groups. By looking at electronic health records and other large health datasets, we can learn a lot about how different medicines affect people. Our goal is to fill important knowledge gaps in how genes affect medicine responses and to better understand conditions like neonatal opioid withdrawal syndrome. We also plan to create new tools and provide training to help more researchers focus on these important areas.

Who could benefit from this research

Good fit: This research focuses on improving care for children (0-21 years old) and pregnant or postpartum women, particularly those whose health information is part of large datasets.

Not a fit: Patients not in the maternal or pediatric populations, or those whose health data are not part of the large datasets being analyzed, may not directly benefit from this specific research.

Why it matters

Potential benefit: If successful, this work could lead to more personalized and safer medicine choices for children and pregnant or new mothers, improving their health outcomes.

How similar studies have performed: Using electronic health records for research is a growing field, and other studies have shown success in identifying health patterns and drug effects using similar data science approaches.
