Understanding different types of adult-onset diabetes and their causes

Subtyping COre for Research on the Etiology of Type 2 Diabetes (SCORE-T2D)

['FUNDING_U01'] · UNIVERSITY OF COLORADO DENVER · NIH-10974202

This study is looking at the different types of type 2 diabetes to find out what makes each person’s experience unique, so we can create better ways to prevent and treat the condition, and we need people with type 2 diabetes to share their health and lifestyle information to help us understand it better.

What this research studies

This research investigates the various subtypes of type 2 diabetes (T2D) to better understand the different factors that contribute to the disease's development and progression. By using advanced algorithms and analyzing diverse data from clinical, behavioral, and environmental sources, the study aims to identify distinct groups of individuals with T2D based on their unique characteristics. This approach seeks to improve prevention and treatment strategies tailored to individual needs, particularly focusing on the diverse U.S. population. Participants will provide data on their health, lifestyle, and social factors to help create a more comprehensive understanding of T2D.

Who could benefit from this research

Good fit: Ideal candidates for this research include adults diagnosed with type 2 diabetes, particularly those from diverse racial, ethnic, and socioeconomic backgrounds.

Not a fit: Patients with type 1 diabetes or those who do not have a diagnosis of type 2 diabetes may not benefit from this research.

Why it matters

Potential benefit: If successful, this research could lead to more personalized and effective treatment options for individuals with type 2 diabetes.

How similar studies have performed: Previous research has shown promise in using clustering algorithms to identify diabetes subtypes, but this study aims to expand on those findings with a focus on U.S. population diversity.
