What this research studies

Our team at the Cleveland Clinic is part of a larger network dedicated to understanding non-alcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD), also known as metabolic dysfunction-associated steatotic liver disease (MASLD), and its more severe form, NASH (MASH). We are gathering information from adults and children with these conditions to better understand how they develop and progress. Our goal is to find new ways to diagnose these diseases without invasive procedures and to discover safe and effective treatments. This work includes completing ongoing studies and analyzing existing patient data.

Who could benefit from this research

Good fit: Ideal candidates for related studies would be adults and children diagnosed with non-alcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD) or non-alcoholic steatohepatitis (NASH).

Not a fit: Patients without a diagnosis of NAFLD or NASH would not directly benefit from this specific research.

Why it matters

Potential benefit: If successful, this work could lead to new ways to diagnose fatty liver disease earlier and develop much-needed treatments for patients.

How similar studies have performed: While there are no currently licensed treatments for NASH, this network builds upon years of collaborative research to advance understanding and treatment development.
