What this research studies

Our team is working to deeply understand how traumatic brain injury (TBI) and stress disorders affect Veterans, especially those who served after 9/11. We look at many factors, including psychological, biological, and brain-related changes, to get a complete picture of these conditions. By following Veterans over time, we hope to learn how these problems develop and predict who might be at risk for certain outcomes. This knowledge will help us create better ways to diagnose and care for Veterans, and eventually, for everyone.

Who could benefit from this research

Good fit: Ideal candidates for related studies would likely be Veterans, particularly those who served in the post-9/11 era and have experienced traumatic brain injury or deployment-related stress disorders.

Not a fit: Patients whose conditions are unrelated to traumatic brain injury or deployment-related stress disorders may not directly benefit from this specific research.

Why it matters

Potential benefit: If successful, this work could lead to improved diagnosis and more effective treatments for individuals with traumatic brain injury and deployment-related stress disorders.

How similar studies have performed: This center has been funded since 2009, indicating a history of successful research and ongoing efforts in this field.
