What this research studies

As a young person living with or at risk for HIV, this Tulane-led hub brings together clinics, community groups, and researchers to shape HIV studies and services that fit youth needs. A community advisory board made up largely of sexual and gender diverse youth of color gives feedback on study plans, outreach, and ethics. The team runs regular steering meetings with site leaders to discuss feasibility and to coordinate multiple medication and behavioral projects at once. The hub focuses on youth-friendly recruitment, retention, and culturally respectful community engagement.

Who could benefit from this research

Good fit: Adolescents and young adults who are living with or at risk for HIV—especially sexual and gender diverse youth of color—served by participating clinics or community organizations.

Not a fit: People who are not adolescents, not affected by HIV, or who are outside the geographic area of participating sites are unlikely to benefit directly.

Why it matters

Potential benefit: If successful, this could make it easier for adolescents to join better-designed, youth-centered HIV trials and access new prevention or treatment options sooner.

How similar studies have performed: Other Adolescent Medicine Trials Network sites and community-engaged research programs have previously improved youth enrollment and study relevance, so this builds on proven approaches.
