What this research studies
Many people with chronic kidney disease (CKD) don't have enough treatment options because we don't fully understand how the disease starts and gets worse. This project seeks to change that by carefully studying patients with CKD, especially those with high blood pressure or diabetes, using kidney biopsies and other health information. Researchers will also consider social and economic factors to create a complete picture of each patient's condition. The goal is to use all this information to develop care plans that are specifically tailored to each individual. We are particularly focused on including African-American and Latinx communities, who are often more affected by CKD.
Who could benefit from this research
Good fit: Ideal candidates are patients with a clinical diagnosis of chronic kidney disease, particularly those with hypertensive or diabetic CKD, and especially individuals from African-American and Latinx backgrounds.
Not a fit: Patients without chronic kidney disease or those not seeking to contribute detailed health and biopsy information for research may not directly benefit from this specific project.
Why it matters
Potential benefit: If successful, this work could lead to new, more effective, and personalized treatments for chronic kidney disease.
How similar studies have performed: This project builds on a successful recruitment site that has already performed numerous kidney biopsies and collected data for the Kidney Precision Medicine Project consortium.
