What this research studies
Community navigators are trained to deliver two types of toolkits—printed materials and tablet-based multimedia—that explain clinical trials and cancer genomics in plain language. Navigators provide one-on-one help, address concerns about privacy and trust, and offer logistical support for people interested in participating. The program is delivered in both rural and urban clinics across the Partnership catchment areas and tailors content to local needs. An evaluation plan tracks reach, changes in knowledge and attitudes, and whether more people enroll in cancer research.
Who could benefit from this research
Good fit: Ideal candidates are adults with cancer or people at increased risk who live in the Partnership catchment areas and want help learning about clinical trials and genomics options.
Not a fit: People outside the geographic catchment areas or those not interested in information or participation in trials or genomics work may not receive direct benefit.
Why it matters
Potential benefit: If successful, this could make it easier for patients—especially in underserved areas—to learn about and join cancer trials and genomics programs, improving access to cutting-edge care.
How similar studies have performed: Patient-navigation and education programs have increased trial awareness and enrollment at other centers, though applying them broadly to cancer genomics in diverse communities is a newer effort.

About this research
- This is an active NIH-funded research project — typically early-stage science, not a clinical trial accepting patient enrollment.
- Some NIH-funded labs run parallel clinical studies or seek volunteers for related work. To check, contact the principal investigator or institution listed above.
