What this research studies
The program partners with community groups, senior centers (including in Central Harlem), and organizations like the Alzheimer’s Association to find and keep research volunteers. It will build a two-tier registry with a broad 'Center Interested' list for information and a smaller 'Trial Interested' list focused on enrolling people into studies. Staff will address common barriers such as blood draws and imaging, create outreach materials, and run virtual talks and webinars for the public and professionals. The core coordinates across Mount Sinai departments to support investigators and improve recruitment and retention for Alzheimer’s research.
Who could benefit from this research
Good fit: Older adults, people with Alzheimer disease or related dementias, caregivers, and community members—especially those in New York City and Central Harlem—who want information or to take part in research are ideal candidates.
Not a fit: People seeking direct clinical care rather than research participation, or those living far from the Mount Sinai area and unable to attend in-person procedures, may not benefit directly.
Why it matters
Potential benefit: If successful, this program could make it easier for patients and families to learn about and join Alzheimer’s studies, speeding progress toward better care and treatments.
How similar studies have performed: Community outreach and recruitment cores at other Alzheimer centers have successfully increased enrollment in trials, and this project builds on those established approaches with a focused two-tier registry.

About this research
- This is an active NIH-funded research project — typically early-stage science, not a clinical trial accepting patient enrollment.
- Some NIH-funded labs run parallel clinical studies or seek volunteers for related work. To check, contact the principal investigator or institution listed above.
