What this research studies

This Los Angeles consortium will plan and run clinical studies focused on adolescents and young adults who are at risk for or living with HIV. They will work with community groups, clinics, universities, and Westat to design trials, recruit participants, and offer local lab and pharmacy support. A community Research Advisory Committee, led by the Connect to Protect Los Angeles coalition, will help shape studies so they meet the needs of youth where they already get care. If I'm eligible, they may invite me to join a study or link me with local prevention and treatment resources.

Who could benefit from this research

Good fit: Teens and young adults in the Los Angeles area who are at risk for HIV or who are living with HIV and able to take part in clinical research are the ideal candidates.

Not a fit: People who live outside the Los Angeles region, who are older than the targeted age range, or who do not meet specific trial eligibility criteria are unlikely to benefit directly.

Why it matters

Potential benefit: If successful, this could make it easier for teens and young adults to access new HIV prevention and treatment options and be connected to local care and support.

How similar studies have performed: The Adolescent Trials Network has previously supported successful youth-focused HIV prevention and treatment studies, so this effort builds on an established program.
