Investigating how environmental exposures affect lung health in people at risk for pulmonary fibrosis
Project 2: Environmental exposures in pre-clinical FPF
['FUNDING_P01'] · UNIVERSITY OF MICHIGAN AT ANN ARBOR · NIH-10846189
This study is looking at how things in our environment, like air pollution and chemicals, might affect the development of pulmonary fibrosis, a serious lung disease, and it's for people who have a family history of this condition; participants will have tests like CT scans and blood tests to help us learn more about the disease and how to catch it early.

What this research studies
This research focuses on understanding the role of environmental exposures, such as air pollutants and chemicals, in the development of pulmonary fibrosis (PF), a serious lung disease. By studying a cohort of individuals who are at risk for familial PF, the research aims to identify how these exposures contribute to disease progression and pathology. Participants will undergo assessments including CT scans and blood tests to evaluate lung health and biological markers. The goal is to integrate findings from various scientific disciplines to better understand the disease and improve early diagnosis.
Who could benefit from this research
Good fit: Ideal candidates for this research include middle-aged adults with a family history of pulmonary fibrosis or those showing early signs of lung abnormalities.
Not a fit: Patients without a family history of pulmonary fibrosis or those who do not exhibit any lung abnormalities may not benefit from this research.
Why it matters
Potential benefit: If successful, this research could lead to improved strategies for early detection and prevention of pulmonary fibrosis, ultimately enhancing patient outcomes.
How similar studies have performed: Previous research has shown promising results in understanding the impact of environmental factors on lung diseases, suggesting that this approach could yield valuable insights.
