What this research studies

Many Veterans need lung cancer screening, but often face challenges with getting screened or completing recommended follow-up tests, both within and outside the VA system. This work will look closely at the steps involved in lung cancer screening for Veterans, particularly focusing on those who use community care providers. We will analyze existing data and care procedures to find out what works well and what can be changed to make the process better for patients. The goal is to identify practical ways to help more Veterans get the high-quality lung cancer care they need.

Who could benefit from this research

Good fit: This work focuses on Veterans who are eligible for lung cancer screening, particularly those receiving care in community (non-VA) settings.

Not a fit: Patients who are not Veterans or who are not eligible for lung cancer screening would not directly benefit from this specific project.

Why it matters

Potential benefit: If successful, this work could lead to clearer, more effective lung cancer screening programs, helping millions of Veterans receive timely and appropriate care.

How similar studies have performed: This project is unique as it is the first to specifically look at lung cancer screening processes for Veterans in non-VA settings and will be the largest to date to examine patient-centered outcomes across many radiology facilities.
