What this research studies

This research focuses on reducing cardiovascular health disparities among African Americans by implementing a community health worker-led intervention in black churches. Over 18 months, the program will provide health coaching, exercise, and weight loss programs, as well as education for healthcare providers. Participants will engage in self-monitoring of their physical activity and health metrics, aiming to improve their overall cardiovascular health. The study will also evaluate how well the program is accepted and its effectiveness in real-world settings.

Who could benefit from this research

Good fit: Ideal candidates for this research are African American adults who are at high risk for atherosclerotic cardiovascular disease.

Not a fit: Patients who do not identify as African American or those who are not at risk for cardiovascular disease may not benefit from this research.

Why it matters

Potential benefit: If successful, this research could lead to significant improvements in heart health and reduced cardiovascular disease rates among African Americans.

How similar studies have performed: Previous research has shown success with community health worker-led interventions in improving health outcomes in similar populations.
