Improving Follow-Up Care After Lung Cancer Screening
Evaluating Centralizing Interventions to Address Low Adherence to Lung Cancer Screening Follow-up in Decentralized Settings
['FUNDING_R01'] · FRED HUTCHINSON CANCER CENTER · NIH-11139648

What this research studies
Lung cancer screening can save lives, but many people miss their follow-up appointments after a screening. This makes it harder to catch lung cancer early when it is most treatable. Our goal is to find better ways for clinics to help patients remember and attend these crucial follow-up visits. We are looking at how centralizing some of these support services can make a big difference in community healthcare settings.
Who could benefit from this research
Good fit: This work is relevant to patients who are eligible for or undergoing lung cancer screening, particularly those in community healthcare settings.
Not a fit: Patients who are not undergoing lung cancer screening or who consistently adhere to their follow-up appointments may not directly benefit from this particular intervention.
Why it matters
Potential benefit: If successful, this work could lead to more people completing their lung cancer screening follow-up, potentially catching lung cancer earlier and improving survival rates.
How similar studies have performed: Prior observational studies suggest that programs with centralized support services have significantly higher rates of follow-up adherence compared to those without.
