What this research studies

At The Ohio State University Comprehensive Cancer Center, a multidisciplinary team of physicians, scientists, and engineers studies the causes and behavior of leukemia and other blood cancers. They combine lab experiments, genetic and other 'omics' testing, immune-system analyses, and patient information to find new treatment targets and improve risk prediction. The program supports preclinical work, clinical trials, and studies that collect patient samples and data across the lifespan from pediatric to geriatric patients. Findings are translated into clinical trials and treatment strategies that people with blood cancers could potentially join.

Who could benefit from this research

Good fit: People of any age with leukemia or related blood disorders (for example AML, CLL, MDS, MPNs, or multiple myeloma) who can travel to or enroll at the Ohio State Cancer Center or partner sites may be eligible.

Not a fit: People with cancers not related to blood or those unable to travel to the study sites are unlikely to be eligible or directly benefit from this program.

Why it matters

Potential benefit: If successful, this work could produce more accurate risk predictions and new, more personalized treatments and clinical trials for people with blood cancers.

How similar studies have performed: Other large leukemia research programs have led to successful targeted therapies and better risk tools, though many approaches tested here are still being refined.
