Improving antibiotic use when children leave the hospital
Implementing a Discharge Stewardship Bundle to improve antibiotic use at transition from hospital to home
This study is working to make sure that when kids leave the hospital, they get the right antibiotics for their infections, like pneumonia or urinary tract infections, so they can recover safely at home and help prevent antibiotic resistance.

What this research studies
This research focuses on enhancing the management of antibiotic prescriptions for children transitioning from hospital to home. It aims to develop and implement a comprehensive program that ensures the right antibiotics are prescribed, considering factors like the type of infection and the appropriate dosage. By addressing common issues with antibiotic prescriptions at discharge, the project seeks to improve patient outcomes and reduce the risk of antibiotic resistance. The intervention will be tested at four children's hospitals, targeting conditions such as pneumonia, urinary tract infections, and skin infections.
Who could benefit from this research
Good fit: Ideal candidates for this research are pediatric patients who are prescribed antibiotics upon leaving the hospital.
Not a fit: Patients who do not require antibiotics at discharge or those who are not hospitalized may not benefit from this research.
Why it matters
Potential benefit: If successful, this research could lead to safer and more effective antibiotic use for children after hospital discharge.
How similar studies have performed: Previous research has shown that antibiotic stewardship programs can improve outcomes in hospital settings, suggesting potential success for this approach in discharge settings.
