What this research studies

This research focuses on enhancing the recruitment and engagement of Hispanic/Latino, limited English proficient, and refugee communities in Alzheimer's disease and related dementia (ADRD) research. By employing a community-engaged approach, the project aims to address the inequities these populations face in ADRD research participation. The initiative includes training scientists in culturally appropriate research practices, building community partnerships, and developing a Community Driven Plan for ADRD Research to ensure that the voices of these communities are heard and prioritized.

Who could benefit from this research

Good fit: Ideal candidates for participation are individuals from Hispanic/Latino backgrounds, those with limited English proficiency, and refugees who are affected by or at risk for Alzheimer's disease and related dementias.

Not a fit: Patients who do not belong to the targeted underserved communities may not receive direct benefits from this research.

Why it matters

Potential benefit: If successful, this research could lead to more equitable representation and tailored interventions for Alzheimer's disease in underserved populations.

How similar studies have performed: Previous research has shown that community-engaged approaches can successfully improve participation rates in clinical studies among underrepresented populations.
