What this research studies

This program brings cancer prevention, treatment, and care-delivery research closer to where you live by partnering with local hospitals, clinics, and primary care practices. The University of Kansas Cancer Center and the Masonic Cancer Alliance work with a statewide rural primary care network (KPPEPR) to offer trials developed by NCORP research groups. Local staff help identify eligible patients, coordinate enrollment, and connect community providers with research resources to reduce travel and logistical barriers. The goal is to increase participation of rural patients in a range of cancer-related studies so more people can access new care options.

Who could benefit from this research

Good fit: Adults living in rural Kansas or receiving care at participating MCA/KPPEPR clinics who have cancer, are at risk for cancer, or are interested in prevention or care-delivery trials are ideal candidates.

Not a fit: People who do not live near or receive care from participating sites, or whose specific cancer type is not included in available trials, may not see direct benefit.

Why it matters

Potential benefit: If successful, rural patients could have easier local access to a wider range of cancer trials and new prevention or treatment options.

How similar studies have performed: Other NCORP and community outreach programs have increased rural trial enrollment and improved access, although some geographic and resource barriers remain.
