What this research studies

You would be asked about your use of cigarettes, nicotine vaping products, and heated tobacco products over several survey waves spanning years. The project follows adults in multiple countries with different regulations and collects repeated questionnaire data roughly every 19 months. Large national cohorts are included (tens of thousands combined) to compare patterns across the US, Canada, England, Japan, South Korea, New Zealand, and Australia. The information is used to understand switching, quitting, dual use, and how policy environments influence those choices.

Who could benefit from this research

Good fit: Ideal participants are adults (21+) who currently smoke, vape, use heated tobacco products, or have recently changed their nicotine product use in one of the participating countries.

Not a fit: People seeking medical treatment, direct quit support, or clinical interventions will not receive clinical care from this survey and may not see direct personal benefit.

Why it matters

Potential benefit: If successful, findings could inform policies and public-health tools aimed at reducing smoking and guiding safer product use or cessation.

How similar studies have performed: Prior International Tobacco Control (ITC) surveys have produced influential findings about smoking and vaping patterns, and adding heated tobacco product tracking across more countries expands on that established work.
