What this research studies
As a patient, this program combines two established community oncology groups into a single network so more hospitals and clinics offer cancer trials. It expands participating sites from 22 to 42 and partners with LSU cancer centers, Mary Bird Perkins, Ochsner, the VA hospital, and statewide screening and tumor registry resources. You may be able to enroll in treatment, prevention, or screening studies through your local oncology clinic without traveling to a major academic center. The network also links to the state tumor registry and screening programs to reach more people and support research using real-world patient data.
Who could benefit from this research
Good fit: Ideal candidates are people with cancer who live in Louisiana or the surrounding Gulf South and can receive care at one of the participating hospitals or clinics.
Not a fit: People who live far from participating sites, cannot travel, or whose specific cancer type is not included in available trials may not benefit directly.
Why it matters
Potential benefit: If successful, patients in the region could have easier access to more cancer trials, potentially giving them new treatment options and earlier detection.
How similar studies have performed: Previous NCORP programs have successfully increased clinical trial participation in local communities, and this effort builds on that proven model.

About this research
- This is an active NIH-funded research project — typically early-stage science, not a clinical trial accepting patient enrollment.
- Some NIH-funded labs run parallel clinical studies or seek volunteers for related work. To check, contact the principal investigator or institution listed above.
