What this research studies
I would receive care at one of two GHESKIO clinic sites that enroll people from infants to adults, including pregnant women and adolescents. The GHESKIO Clinical Trials Unit coordinates labs, pharmacies, data management, and community outreach to run clinical treatment studies. GHESKIO participates in international networks (ACTG and IMPAACT) so some treatments and procedures follow global trial protocols. Visiting the clinic may involve regular study visits, lab tests, and medication monitoring depending on the specific trial.
Who could benefit from this research
Good fit: Ideal candidates are people living with HIV who can attend GHESKIO clinics in Port-au-Prince, including infants (with parental consent), children, adolescents, pregnant women, and adults who meet trial criteria.
Not a fit: People without HIV, those who cannot travel to Port-au-Prince, or those who do not meet a trial's medical or age criteria would not be eligible and likely would not benefit directly.
Why it matters
Potential benefit: If successful, the work could improve HIV treatment options and access in Haiti and lead to better health for mothers, children, adolescents, and adults with HIV.
How similar studies have performed: Prior ACTG and IMPAACT trials have helped improve HIV treatments and pediatric/maternal HIV care, so this program builds on established trial networks and experience.
