What this research studies

This program aims to involve undergraduate students, particularly from under-represented backgrounds, in cardiovascular disease (CVD) research. Students will participate in multi-disciplinary research activities that focus on the diagnosis, treatment, and prevention of CVD. Each student will be paired with a research mentor and will have access to educational resources and materials from Virginia Commonwealth University. The program is designed to foster a new generation of researchers dedicated to reducing the burden of cardiovascular disease.

Who could benefit from this research

Good fit: Ideal candidates for this program are undergraduate students, especially those from under-represented racial/ethnic minorities, individuals with disabilities, and those from rural or inner-city locations.

Not a fit: Patients who are not undergraduate students or do not fit the targeted demographic may not receive direct benefits from this research.

Why it matters

Potential benefit: If successful, this research could lead to a more diverse workforce in cardiovascular research, ultimately improving health outcomes for patients with cardiovascular disease.

How similar studies have performed: Similar programs have successfully engaged under-represented groups in research, leading to increased diversity in the medical research field.
