What this research studies
Our program at the Knight Cancer Institute works closely with communities throughout Oregon to understand the unique challenges they face with cancer. We gather information directly from people and existing resources to identify where cancer affects people most and why. By building strong relationships and sharing knowledge, we aim to make sure that everyone in Oregon has access to the best cancer care and information. This effort helps us tailor our cancer prevention and treatment strategies to better serve the diverse needs of our state.
Who could benefit from this research
Good fit: This program broadly benefits all residents of Oregon, particularly those in communities facing disparities in cancer burden.
Not a fit: Patients outside of Oregon or those not impacted by the specific cancer disparities addressed by this program may not directly benefit.
Why it matters
Potential benefit: If successful, this program could lead to more equitable cancer care and better health outcomes for people across Oregon by addressing specific community needs.
How similar studies have performed: Community engagement is a well-established approach that has shown success in improving health outcomes and reducing disparities in various health areas.
