What this research studies

The Cancer Center analyzes statewide cancer registry and other public data to map cancer burden, risks, and disparities across Colorado. The Office of Community Outreach and Engagement conducts community health assessments and partners with rural, Hispanic, and low-income communities to set priorities and design local programs. COE brings researchers together with community leaders to promote screening, HPV vaccination, smoking-cessation, environmental health efforts, and access to clinical studies. They also share findings, educate residents, and support advocacy to help people get care and participate in research when appropriate.

Who could benefit from this research

Good fit: Ideal participants are Colorado residents affected by cancer, cancer survivors, people at higher risk (for example rural, Hispanic, or low-income communities), and caregivers interested in local programs and research.

Not a fit: People who live outside Colorado or who need immediate experimental treatments unrelated to community outreach may not gain direct benefit from this program.

Why it matters

Potential benefit: If successful, this work could boost screening and prevention, reduce cancer disparities, and connect more Coloradoans to care and research opportunities.

How similar studies have performed: Other cancer center outreach and engagement programs have improved screening rates, education, and trial enrollment, so this approach is well-established.
