What this research studies
This research aims to gather health information and biological samples from 13,000 individuals, including African Americans, Hispanic/Latinx Americans, and Africans, to better understand Alzheimer's disease. Participants will undergo clinical assessments, neurocognitive testing, and provide blood samples for genetic analysis. The data collected will help identify genetic markers and other factors related to Alzheimer's disease in these populations. This initiative is part of a larger effort to enhance our understanding of how Alzheimer's affects diverse groups.
Who could benefit from this research
Good fit: Ideal candidates for participation include African Americans, Hispanic/Latinx Americans, and Africans who are either diagnosed with Alzheimer's disease or are healthy controls.
Not a fit: Patients who do not belong to the targeted demographic groups or those with other forms of dementia unrelated to Alzheimer's may not benefit from this research.
Why it matters
Potential benefit: If successful, this research could lead to improved understanding and treatment of Alzheimer's disease, particularly in underrepresented populations.
How similar studies have performed: Previous research has shown success in using similar approaches to study genetic factors in Alzheimer's disease among diverse populations.
